Keep 316 and 316L as distinct designations unless the governing standard and project authority permit a specific alternative or dual designation. Put the exact approved wording on the RFQ. A supplier response should repeat it or flag a deviation for review.
Start with chloride and chemical exposure
Grade selection should begin with the real environment: chloride source, concentration, temperature, wet-dry cycle, cleaning chemistry, crevices, deposits and contact with dissimilar metals. Describe the consequence of failure. Cosmetic tea staining, product contamination and pressure loss have different risk profiles. The responsible engineer should decide whether a 316-type designation is suitable and which variant, product form and standard apply.
Separate grade choice from tubing geometry
Even after the material is selected, the tubing line still needs outside dimension, wall, length, tolerance, route, finish and end condition. State actual dimensions for tube. If the design uses nominal pipe language, correct the product description before seeking price.
Close-fitting, bending or orbital-welding work may need controls beyond basic OD and wall. Add ovality, straightness, cleanliness or end preparation only when the process requires them. A drawing should show what controls fit.
Name the product standard and edition
The ASTM steel standards index lists active documents for different stainless product forms. Do not select a standard only because it contains the grade name. Read the scope, then have the design authority approve the document and edition for the intended tube.
Ask any respondent to identify the offered route, standard, edition and condition. If the item cannot be offered, an availability response should say so plainly. An alternative needs its own technical basis and should not be merged into the requested line.
Ask for evidence without presuming supply
Prepare a document list before contacting a seller. It may cover material identity, order-specific test records, dimensions, surface condition, inspection and marking. The list is a request, not proof that YUHUA or any other respondent can provide every item.
Review returned evidence for coherence. Product description, identifiers and the cited standard should refer to the same offered material. A brochure that explains 316 is not a certificate for a delivered lot.
Run an availability check after engineering approval
